CULTURESCAPE TOKYO
15-30 MARCH 2013
Cultural, ecological, economic, and demographic conditions shape urban environments while the globalization shapes the cultural values of the regions. The outcome of this process is “cultural homogenity” all around the world. Especially after the industrial revolution, metropols have experienced a rapid change which cause merging of planned and unplanned neighborhoods, and sel-generated public spaces in urban environments. This, so called “spontaneous architecture”, forces landscape architects, urban planners, and architects to work in collaboration and produce more creative and sustainable solutions for preserving cultural heritage of landscapes in the metropolitan areas. The CULTURESCAPE Workshop will be held in Tokyo to examine one of the greatest metropols of the worldwith unique heritage and culture. The purpose is to bring students from Tokyo University of Agriculture and Istanbul Technical University to generate sustainable design approaches to cultural landscapes. As the outcome of the workshop, students will propose design strategies for preserving the cultural heritage of landscapes in these metropol areas, and they will support their ideas with models, sketches, diagrams, and drawings.
